Art

In the last one year in the US, I did a number of useful (and useless) things to keep me busy. One of them was to start painting and sketching once again. On this page, I'm going to display some of my sketches and paintings. They are not extraordinary, but good enough to be displayed on my blog without feeling embarrassed :).
I do not intend to sell them currently, but may do so in the future. Feel free to leave feedback or ask any questions you may have!

Roman Colosseum - Oct 2013

After the Eiffel Tower, I decided to try my hand at some more architectural structures and the Colosseum seemed challenging. I am not very happy with the result and I blame the lack of attention given to details while making this.
I think I also need to consciously be prudent with my pen while rendering since it is almost impossible to undo any extra line made with a pen.
It took me a total of 6-7 hours spread over two days to complete this.

Materials/Medium:
Dark green Card Stock paper
White ink pen
Size: 12" X 12"

Eiffel Tower Sketch - Sept 2013

I have long been interested in drawing the Eiffel Tower and finally found that evenings are a good time to get myself to do it. I started off with making this a pencil sketch but then decided pen and ink would be more fun. Completed over a period of 4-5 evenings, here it is!

Materials/Medium:
Acid free acrylic paper
Pen and Ink

Size: 9" X 12"

Gerbera Daisy in Glass Vase - Sept 2013

I found a beautiful picture in intense red and green and decided that I HAVE to try replicating it. This also started as a pencil sketch before I decided to use more charcoal than lead. I like black more than grey, I realize.
Materials/Medium:
Acid free acrylic paper
Charcoal and Lead pencil

Size: 9" X 12"

Buddha on Ikea Chair -  Aug 2013

I had this plain white Ikea Chair which we enjoyed for sometime until it started to seem too boring. At that point, we were okay with not keeping it with us when we moved. Realizing we din care for it much, I decided to try painting it without any worries of ruining it but turns out that it does look better than it's earlier plain self. I think we're gonna keep this chair for sometime now:)

Materials/Medium:
Acrylic Paints

Size: Approx 18" X 24"

Gold & Brown Wall Mural - March 2013

Materials/Medium:
AFS Canvas, Oil and Acrylic Paints

Size:
1 Center Canvas: 6" X 12"
4 Square Canvases: 6"X 6"

Sunset Painting - July 2012

This was a surprise gift for my husband in 2012, the year we got married. I was still new to US and did not have too many resources to work with. Thankfully, I had this canvas board and paints on hand and decided to make this painting that day. He says he loves it. I think it's not great with regard to its artistic value, but due to the memory associated with it, I treasure this!
Materials/Medium:
Stretched Cotton Canvas
Acrylic and Oil Paints

Size: 18" X 24"

Before moving to the US, I was an Interior Designer by profession. During my interior designing days, I made some sketches... scroll down to take a look.

SCIAGRAPHY - 2010

Light & Texture

This is a pencil sketch in which I have tried to show the impact of light and shadow in a room while throwing in a variety of textures, just as a challenge ;)

Materials:
Lead pencil

Light & Reflection

This is a pencil sketch in which I have used a variety of surfaces like mirror, glass, ceramic and marble to show how light has an impact on interiors in the presence of reflective surfaces

Materials:
Lead pencil

Light & Shadow

Following is a series of drawings displaying how light casts different shadows when thrown from different angles. It covers a total of 9 directions in which light is thrown on a still object. Drawn using lead pencil.

 Pen & Ink Rendering

This pen and ink sketch was a stressful project due to the knowledge that a mistake would be unerasable. However, the result was satisfactory.
Materials:
0.5 Rotring Pen, Black Rotring Ink

Color Scheme

This sheet is a composition of different color schemes. I have used stilettos and sandals to show how these color schemes exist in things we use without realizing 'they fit in the big scheme of things.' This also happens to be my favorite cousin's favorite sheet:) It's no co-incidence that she has a fetish for footwear!
Materials:  Water Paints and Poster Paints

Before 2010

Scroll down to view some of the sketches and paintings made during my graduate days. These sketches remind me of the innumerable sketches and paintings I made in school. Wish I had record of all my past works!

Wintery Night

In this drawing, my intention was to show snow covered earth with barren trees. Unfortunately, with the overuse of charcoal, I could not achieve this goal. I wish I was prudent with the use of charcoal and left more blank white spaces to depict gleaming snow.
Materials:
Charcoal and Sketching Paper

Woman carrying water in the Sun

This was a drawing that was made while trying my hand at portraits (around 2006). I realized I ended up making the woman 'wicked' in appearance due to the disproportionate features which are different from the original. This started off as a pencil sketch but I used a black pen to darken it in some places.

Materials:
Sketching Paper, Pencil and Black pen

Mughal Style Portrait

This is inspired by the many mughal side portraits which are very stylized and ornamental in their approach. The drawing was made on white paper, and then pasted over black handmade paper.

Materials:
Sketching Paper, Black Pen & Pencil.
